Camp Love
Connie Loudermilk Goins

Standing in the moonlight just left of the mess hall
Rocking chairs sit silent on the front porch
A cool breeze blows her hair in her face
Giving some relief to the sizzle of the day's heat
His arms holding her tight against his chest
Hands placed firmly on the small of her back
Her fingers locked around his strong neck
A smile spread wide with a look of young love
Their eyes meet full of beautiful words, yet their mouths never speak
Time standing still nothing exists except each other
As campers run about to brush their teeth and shower
Camp Thomas E Lightfoot is closing down for the night
Counselors have some time for themselves
Dreams of tomorrow are being born in those moments
As a kiss so sweet and slow, feeling every emotion through their lips
With only two hearts guiding the way
Hearing the trumpet sound, the lights go out!
The young lovers are left in the dark
Only a few street lamps scattered across the yard
Quiet fills the air, everyone disappears
Our West Virginia mountains are ready to sleep
The couple hand in hand walk up the hill to the rec building
To part ways until morning assembly
Waiting for lunch to be over for some more alone time again
For two weeks at camp a short love affair
Arriving home to find you go to the same school that year
And the Camp Love that started continues . . . .
